Feb. 8 Tibetan Buddhist New Year

Notes from Feb. 8 Instagram posts: At the conclusion of the Puja (the ceremony of prayers and offerings) horns blare while sangha members throw pine branches into the fire, making prayers for the coming year. It’s quite lovely to hear and to behold.

From this morning’s Fire Puja at Karma Triyana Dharmachakra. Losar officially begins tomorrow but, my understanding is that these practices such as Mahakala and Fire Puja, Green Tara etc, are done at this time to prepare the way. The Fire Puja is meant to clear away obstacles and negativity as we begin a new year in the Tibetan Buddhist Calendar. May all beings benefit and be free from suffering and the causes of suffering in this most auspicious year of the Fire Monkey, 2016.
